CTU: an application for pre-demolition audits
Challenge
Before a building is demolished, someone should map what can be reused. A pre-demolition audit is the foundation of circular construction, yet there was no online tool for it in Czechia. CTU UCEEB tackles this in the international TISMIC project (Ministry of Education programme, reg. no. LUC23046) together with ETH Zürich, TU Graz and Leibniz IOER. The goal is an online tool for pre-demolition audits and a national deconstruction database built on it.
Solution
A web application for pre-demolition audits. In it, an auditor works through a building audit in a structured way, and the audit then informs further decisions:
- structured collection of data about the building and its elements in one place,
- an overview of materials and elements that can get a second life instead of going to landfill,
- the audit output as a basis for decisions before demolition,
- a foundation for the national deconstruction database that follows.
Result
The tool is already used in practice. Under the name Tismic tool it is part of the circular construction courses of the Czech Green Building Council (CZGBC) (opens in a new window), and CTU received a transfer voucher from the Central Bohemian Innovation Centre (opens in a new window) to develop and validate the production version of the software (2026). The project background is described by CTU UCEEB (opens in a new window).
