CTU: LCA database and the DATALCA.cz portal
Challenge
Czechia needed its own database of environmental data on building materials. Assessing the carbon footprint of buildings (GWP) relied on generic foreign data that does not fit Czech construction. The Ministry of the Environment therefore commissioned CTU to build a local generic database. The contract follows the EU EPBD IV directive and the National Recovery Plan. The CTU UCEEB team creates the data and the methodology. The data still had to reach people online, in a usable and reliable way.
Solution
We built the entire online part of the project, from design to operations. A portal through which professionals and the public work with Czech environmental data on building materials:
- a public materials database with environmental data for carbon footprint assessment,
- a catalogue of building structures,
- an environmental calculator for assessing a building,
- import and processing of the data prepared by the CTU UCEEB team,
- operation of the portal and further development as requested by the contracting authority (Ministry of the Environment).
Technology
Result
One public source of Czech environmental data for construction. The DATALCA.cz (opens in a new window) portal is in pilot operation and offers the Materials Database, the Structures Catalogue, the Environmental Calculator and the methodology. It serves life cycle assessment of buildings under EPBD IV as well as grant programmes. It was delivered as a public contract, and everything can be looked up in the Register of Contracts. The project is funded by the EU (NextGenerationEU) under the National Recovery Plan.
